Week 3 discussion post is related to comparative economic development. You are assigned Mexico as the country for the comparative development versus the U.S.A.
The data is obtained from The Maddison-Project, (http://www.ggdc.net/maddison/maddison-project/home.htm, 2013 version) and uploaded below to MYLS for easy access as an excel file. The data includes GDP per capita for the two selected countries. You are asked to plot the GDP per capita for the assigned country versus GDP per capita from the U.S.A since 1900. You are expected to see the growth in GDP and how the gap in GDP growth between the assigned country and the U.S.A. has been changing. You are required to make two postings: One original post in the topic and one response to a posting.
Plotting the data is relatively simple if you select columns A, B and C all together (might need to press “shift” key while selecting) on the excel file. Go to “insert”, “charts”, “scatter”, “scatter with smooth lines”. Time will be on the horizontal axis and GDP data will be on the vertical axis. You will see GDP growth of USA as one smooth line and the GDP growth of Mexico as another smooth line on the same graph. As they are graphed together on the same graph, it allows you to compare and contrast their GDP growth over time.
Please make sure to select the graph and copy/paste it to the discussion board on your first (original) posting. You will need to interpret the GDP growth between the two countries with explanations such as when they grow closely together or more apart and WHY. Make sure to do research and support your arguments with facts, statistics, development related concepts and terms.
